MS for MS FOUNDATION
This Started With Marcia
Some causes become important because they touch your life personally. This one touched ours.
MS for MS Foundation was inspired by my sister, Marcia, and her journey with Multiple Sclerosis. But her story—and what she taught us along the way—is about much more than MS.
It is about family. Determination. Dignity. Independence. Faith. And finding ways to make everyday life a little better for someone who needs a hand..
MORE THAN A DIAGNOSIS
Before MS, She Was Simply Marcia.
Before multiple sclerosis became part of her story, Marcia was simply Marcia. She grew up in a family with her parents and two brothers, and like every family, we shared years of memories, milestones, laughter, disagreements and life together.
As the years passed, we each grew up and built lives and families of our own. Marcia became a mom and eventually a grandma. She was a daughter, a sister, a mom, a grandma, an aunt and a friend. She loved her family, loved to laugh and had a personality that was unmistakably Marcia.
MS would eventually change many things in her life. It affected her independence, her mobility and everyday things most of us rarely have to think about. But MS never defined Marcia. It was something she lived with—not who she was.
LIVING WITH MS
When Everyday Life Becomes Harder
Over time, MS took more and more of Marcia’s independence. Things most of us do without thinking became difficult, and eventually some became impossible without someone there to help.
Our family saw firsthand that living with MS isn't only about doctor visits, medications and medical care. It's also about everyday life — getting where you need to go, maintaining your home, having the right equipment, staying connected to family and friends, and being able to participate in the moments that make life meaningful.
And sometimes the things that can make the biggest difference are the very things insurance, government programs or traditional assistance don't cover.
Those everyday needs stayed with me. They became an important part of the idea behind MS for MS Foundation.
Marcia's journey taught our family something important. Living with MS isn't only about doctor visits, treatments and medications. It's also about the everyday things most of us rarely have to think about.
A ramp that makes it possible to get into a home. Equipment that provides a little more independence. Transportation to an appointment. Help with an unexpected expense. Sometimes, simply making everyday life a little easier.
There are organizations doing tremendous work to research MS and search for better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. Our purpose is different.
MS for MS Foundation was created to help people and families with the practical, everyday needs that can make living with MS a little easier.
